      Hi All,
I have a ford sierra based cobra kit (Fiero Factory) car here in my shed (rolling chassis) for years & was researching again before I started into it and it was looking like I was going to have to sell it as it seemed impossible to register it here in Ireland. This website has convinced me that it might be possible to finish it & get it registered in Ireland, so some light at the end of the tunnel!! I’m nearly finished a restoration of a BMW e46 330Ci I have, so I’m rearing to go on the next project.
I had originally planned on using the 2.0L DOHC from the sierra donor car, but I’m now planning on fitting a Ford V6 engine if anyone knows where I can source one, ideally with n MT75 gearbox, which will suit the setup I have.
Great to see that the club has started again and that there might be a future possibility of building kit cars in Ireland once again.

Sounds like a great project Brian! Have you considered a jag S type donor engine? They’re essentially a Ford engine, but with a few jag tweaks, and also already set up for a RWD configuration. They came in 2.5 and 3.0 v6s, although the 3.0 with a manual box are a bit more rare.

Hi Andrew, Thanks for the suggestion. I have sourced a Ford BOA 2.9 V6 for the project just recently.

Hi all, have been dipping in and out of the kitcar building plan over the last 20 years and am once again keen to start.

Assuming you are registering as new, suggest you pick something more “co2 friendly” as the assessment made for registration will set the co2 figure for both vrt and cartax for life.

I don’t believe there is a system of updating the co2 post registration but engine changes are permitted!

I see a future in which the same 1.0 ecoboost engine shows up in homebrews at the NCT centre evert few months so!

I’m thinking more along an electric drivetrain with the same bolt in points as a typical engine. Small battery would do.

      Gets a valuable 0 g/km co2 and 0 nox.
